Chasing Amy

"YOUR'E JUST A TRACER"

Since I had felt like watching a movie rather than reading a comic I chose to watch Chasing Amy. Before this class I had never herd nor seen the movie so I plugged it into Netflix and sat down with some coffee.

I enjoyed the cast set for this comedy/romance movie. Although I never go out of my way to watch a movie with Ben Affleck in it, I do enjoy Ethan Suplees acting. Also I would like to note that Joey Adams plays very well in this movie, but I really cannot stand her breathy voice, it just really gets under my skin. This trifecta of a cast just seemed to sit perfectly with the roles that were given to each of them and then collectively as a whole. Also! The fact that Jay and Silent Bob were in this movie just gave it 10 more brownie points. Plus it was even better that they were the super heroes that Ben and Ethan

Although I really liked the humor in this movie, I wish there we more of it. My favorite part of the whole movie was when Ethan got called out for being a tracer and then he proceeded to kick that guys ass. I wish there was more art filled jokes in this movie. The most dominating part of the entire movie was the romance part. Which I understand that that is what it is supposed to be about, but come on. It totally ruined the whole fun and awesome time of being a comic book artist. That was just one tiny point in the whole entire movie.

I am just going to say. I really. really. hated the romance in this movie. It was weird at times, and too much "HOLY SHIT I LOVE YOU even though you are a lesbian I'm going to pull a douche bag card and tell you and then we're going to date and then I am going to find out that you were a hoe bag in high school and get all butt hurt about it. Then I am going to find out my best friend is digging me and ultimately say that we should have a three some to make everything better because I am selfish and it is all about ME!" I seriously think I just described the whole romance part in two sentences. The sad part is that this whole movie was based around that messed up love triangle. I mean I am as much of a fan of romance comedies as the next person but COME ON. It wasn't even funny. Just kind of sad and pathetic in Ben Afflacks case.

Other than the romance part I liked this movie a while lot. I thought it was very funny and I really enjoyed the parts about the comic conventions.
